The Weswes Collection documents the return of a historically significant coral collection from the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, USA, to Queensland after more than a century overseas. Led by Meriam Traditional Owners and supported by Queensland Museum Network and partner organisations, the return marked an important moment of cultural reconnection and care for Country.
Hello Blue Productions was engaged by Queensland Museum Network to capture the return of the collection at Queensland Museum Tropics in Townsville, documenting both the official delegation and community events, alongside interviews with Traditional Owners, museum representatives and key stakeholders.
The resulting film brings together cultural, scientific and personal perspectives to tell a respectful and considered story about preservation, reconciliation and the ongoing relationship between institutions and community.

Project Approach
Filming took place during a live program of events at Queensland Museum Tropics, requiring interviews, ceremonial coverage and observational footage to be captured across multiple locations and timeframes while remaining sensitive to the significance of the occasion.
Interviews were filmed within the museum environment, with lighting designed to create a calm and considered atmosphere that reflected the connection between the collection and the ocean environment. Background elements were carefully controlled to remove distractions and maintain focus on the stories being shared.
