The Queensland Museum Network required a video to support the launch of Dinosaurs Unearthed: Explore Prehistoric Queensland, while also documenting the process behind its creation.
The project centred on capturing the behind-the-scenes development of a major permanent gallery, from curatorial research through to design, fabrication, and installation. This included working closely with museum staff and scientists to document their role in shaping the exhibition.
The video needed to balance institutional credibility with accessibility, reflecting both the scientific depth of the work and the public-facing experience of the gallery. It was designed to sit alongside the Museum’s broader campaign, while also functioning as a standalone piece of content for digital and in-venue use.
Filming took place across multiple stages of the build and within active museum environments, requiring flexibility and a considered approach to working around ongoing installation and public access.

Project Approach
The approach focused on documenting the process rather than promoting the outcome.
Interviews with curators and staff formed the backbone of the piece, allowing the story to be carried by those directly involved in the exhibition. This ensured the content remained grounded in expertise rather than narration.
Filming was structured around key phases of the build, capturing both the physical installation and the decision-making behind it. This included working within partially completed spaces, adapting to changing environments, and maintaining continuity across multiple visits.
Visually, the intent was to reflect the scale and detail of the exhibition without overstating it. Movement was kept controlled, and coverage prioritised genuine moments of work, interaction, and inspection rather than staged sequences.
The final edit balances these perspectives, presenting the exhibition as both a scientific body of work and a constructed environment shaped by many contributors.
Additional Deliverables
A broader suite of content was developed to support the exhibition across multiple formats and platforms.
Curator Profiles
Short form videos featuring curators and scientists involved in the exhibition.
Sizzle Reels
Short form edits for digital distribution, delivered across multiple formats.
Outcome
The video suite supports both the launch and ongoing presence of Dinosaurs Unearthed, providing content for digital platforms and in-venue use. The curator led approach ensures the exhibition is presented through the voices of those directly involved, aligning with the Museum’s educational and institutional context. The broader set of deliverables allows the content to be used across multiple formats without requiring additional production.
