James Cook University’s Indigenous Education and Research Centre (IERC) engaged Hello Blue Productions to create a series of videos aimed at supporting Indigenous students in accessing higher education pathways.
The project centred on capturing the stories of students who had entered or were progressing through university with the support of the IERC. Each story highlights individual backgrounds, aspirations, and experiences, helping to communicate what higher education can look like in a real and relatable way.
These individual narratives formed part of a broader campaign, with additional content developed to support use across web, social, and promotional channels. The work was designed to balance authentic storytelling with clear communication, ensuring the IERC could effectively engage both prospective students and key stakeholders.

Student Stories
A series of individual stories capturing the experiences of Indigenous students navigating higher education with the support of the IERC.
Project Approach
This project required a considered and respectful approach, with the focus on allowing each participant to share their story in their own words. Filming took place across multiple locations, reflecting the diverse backgrounds of the students involved. Interviews were kept conversational and unobtrusive, helping each story feel natural rather than directed. The broader challenge was bringing these individual narratives together into a cohesive campaign. Each story needed to stand on its own, while also contributing to a unified message that could be adapted across different formats and platforms.
